History

The Briard Pedigree Finder is a great idea and a very useful tool. Unfortunately, it is updated only sparsely and, worse, there is no way for an average user to submit own information. The site operator does not respond to any enquiries.

We took up the idea, analysed the Briard Pedigree Finder website and built an equivalent database from scratch. Database search has been complemented by analysis functions relevant for breeders.

Numerous new entries have been added and many existing entries have been checked and updated.

Technology

The software is a proprietary product. Development started in 2005. Its core part comprises of about 40 PHP, HTML and CSS files with in total about 20.000 lines of code. Dynamic data is stored in a MySQL database.

Multilingual texts of the user interface are extracted automatically from an Excel file. Translation to another local language causes relatively low efforts.

Javascript is used in some places to increase the browsing comfort but is not necessary for the basic functionality to work. The pages are tested for with Firefox, Opera and Internet Explorer.
